1. Great for you eyes

Avocados are packed with carotenoids such as lutein. These carotenoids are essential for our body to process in order to have healthy  eyes. Carotenoids such as lutein protect our vision and help prevent macular degeneration and cataracts. Avocados are also abundant in Vitamin C which forms the collagen in the cornea of the eye. Vitamin C also helps reduce the risk of eye diseases.

2. Extremely nutritious

Did you know that one avocado contains more potassium than a banana? In fact, around 90% of the population doesn’t even get the recommended amount of daily potassium. This nutrient is essential for the electrical activity of the heart, building proteins, and converting carbs into energy. In addition to potassium, avocados also contain Vitamin B5, B6, C, E,  and K. They also contain small amounts of other nutrients such as magnesium and copper and have zero sodium and cholesterol. It is no surprise that avocados are considered a super food!

3. Can lower cholesterol

Avocados contain healthy fats known as oleic acid. These fatty acids have been known to reduce cholesterol levels and help maintain a healthy heart. High cholesterol levels can greatly increase one’s chance of getting heart disease. Many studies have shown that people who add an avocado to their diet significantly reduce their LDL cholesterol levels and increase their HDL (healthy type) cholesterol levels.

4. Loaded with fiber

High amounts of fiber can help you feel full longer, making you want to eat less often. Fiber also maintains our bowel health and can even increase out metabolism. Avocados also are low in calories too so it makes them even a better snack. For diabetics, soluble fiber can help control blood sugar levels by slowing down the absorption of sugar. Around 1/4 of the fiber in an avocado is soluble fiber.

5. Easy to include in the diet

Last but not least, avocados can be added to almost any food. The most famous use of avocados is guacamole. However, you can add it to so much more. They can be added to salsas, salads, sandwiches, smoothies, or even be used to make pasta. They are rich in taste and creamy in texture. Eat them plain and add some salt and pepper and you have a tasty and healthy snack. Make sure to add some lemon too in order to preserve the nutrients for a bit longer.
